내가격(ITM, in-the-money) 상태란 기초자산의 가격이 옵션의 양(+)의 이득을 발생시키는 범위에 있을 때를 말한다.
옵션의 이득이 영(0)인 상태, 즉 기초가격과 행사가격이 일치할 때를 등가격(ATM, at-the-money) 상태라 한다. 그리고 옵션의 이득이 음(-)인 상태, 즉 옵션을 행사하면 옵션프리미엄을 제외하더라도 손실이 발생하는 기초자산의 가격범위를 외가격(OTM, out-of-the-money)상태라 한다.
기초자산의 가격이 옵션의 이득을 아주 크게 발생시키는 상태에 있을 때 이를 '깊은' 내가격(Deep in-the-money)상태라 하고, 반대로 옵션의 손실을 아주 크게 발생시키는 상태에 있을 때 이를 '깊은' 외가격(Deep out-of-the-money)상태라 한다.
예) 콜옵션(call option)의 경우 기초자산의 시장가격이 S이고 행사가격이 X라 할 때, 내가격, 등가격, 외가격은 다음과 같은 수식으로 정의할 수 있다.
내가격(in-the-money), S > X 일때
콜옵션 상태 = 등가격(at-the-money), S = X 일때
외가격(out-of-the-money), S < X 일때
2. The Domino effect
경제학에서는 경상수지적자는 통화가치를 떨어뜨린다고 한다.
그러나 이상하게도 경상수지적자를 겪는 국가의 통화의 가치가 오히려 상승하는 현상이 최근에 일어나고 있다.
일례로 일본의 경우, 작년 한해 경상수지흑자가 GDP의 4.9% 였으나 환율은 오히려 13%하락했고,
반대로 뉴질랜드의 경우에는 경상수지적자가 GDP의 8%였으나 환율은 28%상승했다.
이러한 역설은 바로 캐리트레이드의 결과인데, 이것은 이자율이 낮은 통화를 빌려 이자율이 높은 통화에 "난입"하므로서 차익을 얻는 전략이다.
결국 캐리트레이드로 인해 이자율이 낮은 통화의 화폐가치가 오히려 상승하게 되는 결과가 나타나게 되는 것이다.
작년에 발생한 금융 혼란과 리스크 회피 성향등으로 캐리트레이드는 줄어들게 되긴 했지만
국제적 투자가들이 위험회피 성향을 취할 수록 경상수지 불균형에 대한 높은 관심은 피할 수 없다.
그러한 면에서 호주, 폴란드, 헝가리는 그들의 경상수지적자 수준에 비해 통화가치가 과대 평가 되어있으므로 다음 순서의 도미노가 될 수도 있다.
